Blue Pillar’s Aurora® Energy Network of Things™ Platform Embodies “Grid Edge Industry Transformation”
Frederick, MD – April 21, 2016 – Blue Pillar, provider of the world’s first self-configurable Energy Network of Things™ platform that connects and controls distributed energy assets, announced today that it has been named a Grid Edge 2016 Award winner by Greentech Media. The Grid Edge Awards represent the top twenty companies and projects that have demonstrated potential to shape tomorrow’s distributed energy future and embody grid edge industry transformation.
“Distributed generation assets among the Consumer & Industrial (C&I) sector grew 400% from 2010-2015. That exponential growth is radically changing the boundaries of the grid edge,” said Tom Willie, CEO of Blue Pillar. “The heart of Blue Pillar’s mission has been to provide the ubiquitous behind-the-meter connectivity and control platform to these assets regardless of make, model, vintage or type. We believe this ubiquitous connectivity can push the envelope of grid edge transformation by simplifying the chaos behind-the-meter. By offering a technology platform that levels the playing field for energy providers and utilities, we can more rapidly enable new services required to meet the demands of the Facility of the Future™.
Historic approaches to connecting disparate behind-the-meter distributed generation assets required customized SCADA development. This became inordinately expensive, exposed cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and left behind many stranded assets. With Aurora, Blue Pillar has been able to create Distributed Generation Infrastructure (DGI) networks behind-the-meter to connect energy assets in a way that scales to the needs of energy providers, grid operators and facility owners. Because the platform is self-configurable, it can be deployed in a manner that works with existing legacy equipment with no onsite programming. By centrally connecting and gathering distributed generation data, a grid operator or energy service provider gains accurate insights and control of any asset that generates, consumes, switches or measures electricity. To date, Aurora has connected hundreds of megawatts of distributed energy assets behind-the-meter at a wide range of facilities including hospitals, military bases and universities to help them become more resilient, and energy-efficient.
Greentech Media started the Grid Edge Awards in 2014 to identify companies that embody the technology and programs required to push grid edge industry transformation. Winners include pioneers, established technology vendors, utilities, energy providers and others who showcase innovative products, market-disrupting business models and an overall forward-looking vision.
Blue Pillar will receive the award at the Grid Edge World Forum, taking place June 21-23, 2016 in San Jose, California.
